The move towards banning pointless plastic in packaging of food and drink is something that many are campaigning for and the latest food businesses to add their support to the campaign are Lady Scarlett’s Tea House and The Smoking Lobster on Ventnor seafront, French Franks and The Farm Shop in Bembridge.
The businesses are looking to reduce their plastic waste from takeaway coffee cups, plastic straws and packaging and are sourcing bio-degradable packaging and reusable cups. The Farm Shop and No 8 Cafe in Bembridge have designated themselves as a water station, where you can refill your bottle without having to buy anything and to stop you buying unnecessary plastic.
There is also a campaign that you can join on facebook called ‘Plastic Aware’ which raises awareness of the problems of marine plastic pollution and aims to actively encourage the reduction of single use plastic used in everyday life! They run events including beach cleans and film nights.
