Shanklin Chine

3 Chine Hill, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, PO37 6BW

Shanklin Chine is one of the Island’s oldest attractions. Located in Shanklin Old village it is well worth a visit either during the day or the evening when you will find it completely illuminated. You will find a popular tea room, gift shop and heritage centre all located at the lower end of the Chine.

Open since 1817, Shanklin Chine was a favourite of many artists, poets and authors such as Thomas Rowlandson, John Keats and even Charles Dickens. Historically, The Chine was said to be frequented by many royals, including Queen Victoria.

Set in the conservatory, the tea room not only serves quality homemade scones with cream teas but also sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes. The outside seating makes for a relaxed afternoon. All the cakes and biscuits are homemade in the Chine using high-quality produce from local Island suppliers wherever possible.
