The Bargeman’s Rest is a picturesque, family-run, family and dog friendly pub which sits on Newport Harbour, overlooking the river Medina and is within a three minute walk of Newport town centre, the Island’s county town.

What is the best thing about being a landlady?
I’ve almost always worked in hospitality so the answer to that must be people. Both customers and staff. You certainly meet an eclectic mix!
What is your favourite local tipple?
Without doubt the Mermaid Gin. Xavier Baker deserves every success. I’ve known him since opening The Bargeman’s. He’s a lovely, hardworking and innovative chap.
Other than your pub, where would you go for a drink?
There are so many great pubs on the Island we’re very lucky. I would have to say The Dairyman’s Daughter, The Steamer Inn and The Spyglass. We also have enjoyed a lovely drink or two sitting outside at The Breeze at Island Harbour.
