Pancake Day is upon us, so dust off your frying pan and get your flip on with these fun facts we bet you didn’t know about Shrove Tuesday…
#Pancake races. Thought to have originated in Olney during the 15th Century, these races take place up and down the country including here on the Island. Head to Brading Youth Centre for 5pm start.
#Egg-streme egg use. It is estimated that around 52 million eggs are cracked on Pankcake Day in the UK, a whopping 20 million more than an average day!
#Get continental. If you are celebrating in France, it is traditional to touch the handle of the frying pan and make a wish while the pancake is flipped, whilst holding a coin in your hand.
#Unusual fillings. In days gone by, cooks were said to use snow in their pancakes to make them soft and fluffy.
#Mix it up. The first ready-made mix was was created in St Joseph, Missouri way back in 1889.
