The Breakfast Club…

Don’t skip breakfast! Well, that’s what they say. With our round-up of some of the best places on the Isle of Wight for the most important meal of the day, there won’t be any chance of that. In fact, the problem will be fitting them all in!

For top-notch posh nosh…
For a regal breakfast, head to The Royal Hotel in Ventnor. Open to everyone (you don’t have to spend the night) there is an excellent choice depending on what mood your taste buds are in. Choose from a classic Full English or if you fancy changing things up a bit, try dishes such as eggs Benedict, Loch Duart smoked salmon served with scrambled eggs or smoked haddock served with poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Want it extra-special? Add a glass of Bucks Fizz too.

For breakfast with a view…
Blueberry’s Café has an enviable position, sitting right by the cliff path between Sandown and Shanklin. You can sit outside and look out to sea towards Culver Down. Offering classic choices including your typical Full English, a smaller option as well vegetarian choices and plenty of bap options, you won’t go hungry.

For the whole clan…
If you have a few fusspots amongst you, The Hungry Bear is a great option. There are good children’s portions for the ‘bear cubs’ and for those as hungry as a bear, the ‘full bear breakfasts’ are served all day. Everything is made onsite, including the bread, plus the produce is locally sourced and changes to reflect the seasonality of the ingredients. Set in the beautiful Lavender Farm surrounded by ancient woodland and hundreds of acres of unspoilt countryside, it is an idyllic spot.

For local produce…
For a plate of local fayre, you would be hard pushed to find a better option than Bluebell’s Café at Briddlesford Lodge Farm. The ‘Bluebell Breakfast’ comprises of sausages made by the onsite butcher, Brownrigg’s free-range eggs, Isle of Wight tomatoes and multi-seed granary toast from Grace’s Bakery. For the veggies, try ‘Bluebell veggie breakfast’ using local tomatoes, eggs and potatoes or the new and popular addition ‘halloumi hash’ which uses Briddlesford’s own halloumi style cheese, made with milk from the Guernsey cows in the cheese factory on the farm.

Earn it…
Work up an appetite with a good walk or cycle ride pre-breakfast. From Newport, take the main cycle track towards Ryde. This riverside walk is ideal for ramblers and dog walkers and will make the breakfast that is waiting for you, well worth it. The Breeze Restaurant at Island Harbour is one of the Island’s best-kept secrets. With a stunning setting, large play-area for the kids and a super tasty breakfast, this won’t be your last visit.

For the hair of the dog…
It doesn’t matter how late you get up, at The Bargeman’s Rest in Newport, it will still be breakfast time. Served from 10.30am – 5pm, choose from The Tug, The Barge or
The Titanic – if you can handle it!

For loads of choice…
The Duck in Ryde has a breakfast menu that is bursting at the seams. Try the Duck House Breakfast or Taste favourite, the Streaky Bacon Breakfast Burger. Served up with avocado guacamole, flat mushroom, fried egg, hash browns and breakfast mayonnaise.
