A favourite quick dinner for most families, pasta has become a staple on many a dinner table, but what if you’re eating out? Here are some great restaurants serving up traditional pasta dishes.

The Rex, Ventnor

Located in what was once the town’s cinema, The Rex serves up simple, tasty, modern Italian cuisine, with what is arguably one of the best views of  Ventnor, overlooking the bay at night. Dine on Tagliatelle Gamberoni ‘Amalfi’, a dish inspired by Dickens’s love of the Island.

Michaelangelo, Ryde

Authentic Italian food cooked and prepared by genuine Italian chefs. Serving up comforting favourites such as bolognese and carbonara alongside seafood specials such as spaghetti al ragu’ di Mare. Don’t miss the beautiful handmade tortelli filled with pumpkin and orange zest, tossed in butter, sage and Parmesan cheese, which is a speciality from the owner’s region of Italy: Emilia-Romagna.

Uffa Pasta @ The Little Gloster, Gurnard

We couldn’t do a piece about pasta and not mention the fabulous fresh pasta made at The Little Gloster by Holly from Uffa Pasta. Passionate about pasta, Uffa pasta comes from owners Ben (head chef at The Little Gloster) and his partner Holly and is cutely named after their son. Pop down to The Little Gloster for Pasta Thursdays – a mid-week treat that’s suitable for all ages. You will also spot Holly’s creations cropping up on their regular a la carte menu and specials board.

Cibo, Wootton

If you haven’t been to Cibo already, what are you waiting for? They have a pasta menu that caters to the gluten intolerant with all their pasta dishes having the  option to be gluten free, as well as some fantastically tasty options for vegans and veggies too. For us has to be the Gnocchi with bacon in a creamy wild mushroom sauce with broccoli and Parmesan cheese the stuff that dreams are made of…

The Bonchurch Inn, Ventnor

A long standing favourite, this family-run Inn has been serving up their Italian family recipes for two generations. Known for their ‘Besozzi’s Life Changing Lasagne’ with its own heartwarming story behind it. Made using local grass fed beef and locally sourced ingredients, the lasagna are handmade in the kitchen of The Bonchurch Inn where owner Adrian was taught the secrets to his ‘life changing lasagne’ by his late father Nino.

Tramezzini, Ventnor

A popular choice on the high street of Ventnor, Tramezzini has been tantalising taste buds for some time now, and following the success of the restaurant have opened The Smoking Lobster down on the Esplanade. On both their lunch and evening menu are two unmissable pasta dishes – try the garlic, lemon thyme, scallop and cuttlefish ink linguini served with pan fried catch of the day and chilli oil, or the wild mushroom, spinach and goat curd garganelli served with toasted pine nuts and Parmesan salad.
