As if we need a specific date to celebrate chocolate, everyday is chocolate appreciation day isn’t it? The week of 14th October is Chocolate Week – YES the entire week!

Whether you like sweet white chocolate, creamy milk chocolate or something devilishly dark, there are flavours and fillings that suit almost every taste bud. Here on the Island we are lucky enough to have a few chocolate specialists to keep us stocked up throughout the year.

Chocolate Island

Nestled in the chocolate box village of Godshill you will find Chocolate Island. A store that wouldn’t be out of place as Willy Wonka’s gift shop on the way out of the factory, it’s bursting with chocolatey delights. For the children, there are chocolate lollies, hollow choccy characters and the broken bits bags are like a ready made pick ‘n’ mix. Adult eyes will widen with delight as they look upon the counter. Create your own box of chocolates from the various varieties and fill it with your favorites.

Chocolate Apothecary

You would be excused for thinking you had walked into a Victorian medicinal apothecary (if it weren’t for the fragrant chocolatey aromas filling the air) when visiting Chocolate Apothecary in Ryde. A wonderfully, vintage decorated shop with authentic looking wooden benches and glass jars filled to the brim. Fill up a box of tasty treats to take home or choose to stay a while in the café.

Slab – artisan fudge

Well, not technically chocolate, but Slab artisan fudge has an array of flavours including some chocolatey delights! Offering up both dairy and vegan friendly fudge, no one misses out here. You can choose from flavours such as sweet raspberry and white chocolate, choc/toffee or if you are after the ultimate chocolate hit, you need to try death by choc. Shop online or visit the shop in Cowes.

Say it with Brownies

A chocolate day would not be complete without the nation’s favourite cake, a brownie. Whether you like yours cold or warm with a scoop of ice cream (our mouth is watering) people can’t get enough. Islanders can now get fresh batches of brownies delivered right to their door thanks to Say it with Brownies. Handmade and personalised to the buyers requirements you can choose from an abundance of flavours, send with your own message if gifting and get them on the date you want.

Over the water at Gunwharf Quays

When visiting the shopping outlet centre of Gunwharf Quays there’s more to do than shop til you drop. We know there are a vast array of restaurants to choose from but why not pick up a treat for yourself, something of the sweet variety. Head to the Lindt and Cadbury stores to get your fill of chocolate balls and boost bars.

Wait… in the words of Willy Wonka “Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker”. So top crown chocolate week with a sweet inspired cocktail. No.64 in Shanklin, with its extensive cocktail menu, has a Caramel Saltini on offer. A perfect blend of coffee, chocolate and salted caramel liquors, chocolate bitters and a dusting of chocolate, it’s heaven!
