What is the best thing about being a landlord?
Having spent a lot of my life in other people’s pubs, it feels great to have been able to create my own, with everything I could want – The Spyglass is completely unique! Also, I have been lucky enough to make some wonderful friends along the way, from customers to staff, some of who have been with us for 30 years now.
What is your local tipple?
Yates Golden Bitter. It’s a light, refreshing golden bitter with fruity after tones, and a subtle bitter finish.
What is the one dish on your menu you keep coming back to?
For me, I always choose something from our specials board which showcases the best and freshest local produce, so can’t pick just one.
Where is your favourite place for a cuppa and a slice of something nice?
Every morning, my wife Steph and I walk our dog, Wilson, along the seafront to The Beach Shack at Steephill Cove, we love it there.
What is your favourite event on the Island?
It has to be Ventnor Carnival (8 August). My family has been involved in the carnival since it began over a hundred years ago. We always put a float in and support the local community. It’s a really fun event for all the family and the town comes alive.
